FAQs

What is Reunion Giving?

For ten years now it has been a Pembroke tradition for alumni celebrating their reunion year to come together to establish a fund, named in honour of their year group, to support students from low-income backgrounds. These Reunion Giving Bursaries help ensure that all our students have access to the same educational opportunities regardless of their background. Your support helps to alleviate financial pressures on students and their families, allowing them to fully engage in their studies and pursue their academic ambitions.

Who gets the bursaries?

Reunion Bursaries are part of the enhanced bursary support Pembroke is able to offer thanks to the generosity of our donors. These enhanced bursaries are in addition to any other areas of financial support from the University and College that students may be entitled to claim. Recipients will typically come from a household with income less than £25,000 per year and are often the first in their family to attend university.

The Harding Challenge

If this is your first gift to Pembroke, or first gift in the last two years, it will unlock funds from the Harding Challenge. This means that in addition to supporting your year's Reunion Giving Bursary, your gift will be matched as a contribution to a special fund for undergraduate financial support.

The money unlocked will go to the most deserving undergraduates, as part of expansions to the Cambridge Bursary Scheme aimed at helping all undergraduates in greatest need across the whole University.

How else can I give?

Most gifts will be made via the Reunion Giving site, but if you would prefer to give via another method, you absolutely can do! Alternative methods of giving are available on the College Website or you can call us on +44 (0) 1223 339778

Can I give tax-efficiently from the USA?

If you are based in the USA, you can give tax efficiently to Cambridge in America in support of Pembroke. If you chose this option, we’d be grateful if you could please notify us via e-mail, including which Reunion Bursary you are supporting, as gifts made via this route take longer to arrive.

Doesn't Pembroke have enough money?

Donations from alumni and friends of the College typically make up one fifth to one quarter of Pembroke's annual income. Meanwhile, the cost of maintaining our world-class education system exceeds the amount received through tuition fees.

It is only through the incredible kindness of our donors that we are able to continue to provide the support we do for our students.

By supporting the Reunion Giving Bursaries appeal you are helping to make higher education more accessible, which in turn helps to build a stronger and more inclusive society.
